These remind me of the grapes my grandfather used to grow. Full-bodied flavor, a bit of a snap to the skin, and very productive once established.
Nearly all the seeds sprouted and have been growing steadily since. I’m training them up a trellis and so far they’ve been very low-maintenance.
These vines are not only productive but beautiful. The leaves turn a little red in fall, and the grapes have that bold flavor you expect from black varieties.
I tried growing these in large containers and was surprised by how well they did. Good germination, fast growth, and the vines are lush and productive.
The grapes are a rich, dark purple—almost black—and have a sweet, slightly tart flavor. They took a couple seasons, but well worth the wait!
